“Steve was recommended by a friend of mine to advise me on a complex set of QROPS (UK pension) transfers which involved having a detailed knowledge of the relevant legislation as well as a strong understanding of investment strategy and markets. Steve was excellent on both aspects.
He understood what I wanted to achieve and after combining this with the risk assessment, gave pragmatic, consistent and easy to comprehend advice. Additionally, this has always been followed by timely execution of what was agreed.
Overall, I have both enjoyed having Steve as my adviser and more importantly, have been grateful for his advice in navigating a difficult and important part of my investments”.

"Definitely worth giving Steve a ring at Saturn. He got our pension stuff sorted and he has just helped us set up a retirement plan so we can aim to retire early if we want to. Steve also knows the tax rules around bringing over UK pensions as he has a regular meeting with a local tax adviser who specialises in pensions.
In certain circumstances there can be tax implications to bringing over your pension, so its important to understand if you can transfer free of tax or if a tax charge will apply. Steve has all the tax brackets (I just remember a transfer within 4 years of become NZ tax resident is free of tax), but once you’ve paid any tax obligation – which isn’t necessarily a lot – that means you don’t have to pay tax on it when you draw on the money.
Steve came to us on recommendation from an ex-pat. It was such a relief to finally meet Steve, and we’ve been really pleased with his professionalism and advice in all our dealings with him. Obviously signing up with him means you are set up with the investments that his firm recommend, but then that applies with whoever you transfer with.
When we first talked about this I mentioned you to him and he has since asked whether you’d had any more thoughts about your pension, but I think it says a lot about him that he’s not been pushy and been ringing you all the time trying to get you in for a meeting.
He is just a really genuine guy that’s salaried not on commission so doesn’t need to press gang you into anything. Suggest you go along for a chat as soon as, then you can compare with any other financial info you have? If you have any paperwork from the other advisors feel free to take that with you and he’ll explain it all to you to help you choose the best option for you".

Our investment adviser, Alistair Pirie of Saturn Advice has managed a portfolio in the seven figure range for my wife and I since September 2008. Since inception the portfolio’s returns have averaged just over 10% pa with a low level of volatility.
As we travel overseas for extended periods we wanted peace of mind that our portfolio would be managed on a day to day basis and that any necessary changes to our investments would be made without delay. We have been delighted that Saturn Advice has surpassed all our expectations. It gives us confidence that we can contact Alistair, with excellent support from the Saturn Team. We can also view our portfolio online 24/7.

We'd like to express our appreciation for the great service and advice provided to us over the years by your representative, Brian Coker, of your Christchurch office.
We live in the US, and have met with Brian on several occasions during our visits to New Zealand. He has managed our NZ and Australian funds, and done it extremely well, for many years.
We are continually impressed with his prompt help (typically an immediate response), and the way he goes out of his way to find out the answers and deliver to us the information we need or the requests we make. For example, every year without fail he arranges for our US income tax data to be accounted for as of the end of the calendar year, and sends it to us by end January or early February -- typically earlier than many US fund managers (who of course use this fiscal year routinely).
As our investments come due, Brian makes recommendations to us for their reinvestment, giving excellent descriptions of these investments, their prospects, and analyses of their place in our portfolio.
We know that we can always count on Brian for prompt, intelligent, trustworthy responses, and he has always shown a sincere interest in the prospering of our investments and the good maintenance of our accounting.
It's indeed wonderful to work with Brian, a fine person and financial planner. And we congratulate your firm on finding such an excellent representative. We feel privileged to work with him. As you see, we believe in praise where praise is due!
