Ethical (Responsible) Investing

How Can I Invest Ethically?

Saturn has developed investment options that will integrate an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approach into your portfolio.

For many of our clients, particularly Charitable Trusts, it is extremely important that their funds are invested with some regard to ESG factors.

Many Australasian fund managers are signatories to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI), supported by the United Nations, which works to implement responsible investment practices worldwide. These investment managers actively screen out industries, sectors or companies involved in activities that are harmful to people, animals or the environment.

Examples of such activities include gambling, tobacco, fossil fuels and armaments. This is known as negative screening. An ESG portfolio may also include positively screened investments in areas such as resource efficiency, alternative energy and sustainable agriculture.

An ethical portfolio must still be tailored to meet your risk profile and wider financial goals. Saturn’s challenge is to meet your financial objectives without compromising your individual ethics and values. This requires engagement with your adviser as every client’s situation is unique.
